Wildlife Preservation
Have you watched the movie “King Kong”? The main character in this great and adventurous movie is a gorilla. To summarize the story, this gorilla was hunted and exposed to the city by people who wanted money and fame.
This scene is not just a fantasy or a story, but is also happening in the real scheme of this world. It is very rampant nowadays how people destroy our wildlife. Wild animals are being caught and sold in informal or black markets. It is also very sad to know that there are people who patronize this selling of wild animals even if they know that these species are endangered or almost extinct. Because of this, laws were made to impose punishment to those who are proven guilty of selling and hunting endangered species.
Wildlife does not only pertain to wild and non-domesticated animals. It also includes non-domesticated plants and other organisms that can be found in our ecosystem. We must be aware that not taking good care of our wildlife causes imbalance in our ecosystem. Plants, for instance, are one of our main sources of the oxygen that we breathe. How can we survive without them?
We must preserve our wildlife for our common benefits. Here are the roles each one can take to contribute in wildlife preservation:
- Don’t overkill. This occurs when animals being killed are greater than their population. Fish, for instance, has a great population. When their population decreased significantly due to continuous over killing of fishes, the outcome is the slow rate of growth of the fish population until it reaches a time that these species no longer exist. Proper consumption is a solution to avoid the over killing of animals.
- Protecting Animal Habitat. Animals have a lower possibility of survival when they are removed from their original homes. Cutting of trees, throwing of waste and chemicals to rivers, dynamite fishing and burning of forests are ways that lead to the destruction of the animal’s preferred area of territory. There are organizations that encourage everyone to restore our environment. You can join in tree-planting activities or join the clean and green movement in your society. According to studies, planting more tress can create a good climate. This is also a simple way of restoring the loss and damaged habitation of our endangered animals.
Today, there are organizations that were established to ensure the protection of our wildlife and to balance the needs of wildlife to our needs. Wildlife biologists continue to seek for ways to improve and preserve the habitat of our endangered species. They do pest control to protect our wild animals, irrigation to sustain water for trees and plants, and reforestation to bring life to wild animals. Taking good care of our environment is our main responsibility. Destroying our environment means destroying our future.
We exist together with our wildlife. We must learn to protect and preserve our wildlife for our own common good. A healthy environment is a security for a bright future and a hope to the next generation.
