We all knew this. We all knew that it would take more time than any of us want to dig ourselves out of this hole created by this economic crisis.

These days there are so many ways for you to plan your travels, you can do it yourself or you can even hire someone to do it for you. But can you really trust someone else? How do you really know that they are reliable, or that they have your best interests as a client in mind? This is one of the many problems with people that are planning trips to Alaska. So let us discuss this big problem and help you to prepare on which travel agency or agent to choose when making your itinerary for your Alaskan vacation.

One of the most important signs that should be considered is if they want your account information before you even get to speak with them about services they have to offer for Alaska. There are many traveling agents that will give you free quotes and that is a good start to have. Next question to ask them is if you can see the different prices for services. A lot of travel agents will set up prices for packages, claiming that there is a discount in bundling them and that it will save you time. It may do just that, it may save you time, but it may not be in your best interest. I say this because quite a few of them won’t let you see the individual prices and won’t let you change things.

Then of course they through in the disclaimer about not cancelling services and being locked in. Really? What is that exactly? Definitely a position you don’t want to be in, therefore while you are going through inquiring about their services, also cover this base. You don’t want to feel trapped with staying somewhere in Alaska that you are not interested in and is miles away from your true Alaskan Paradise!

Once you have made it through the first set of important questions, ask them simply if they have ever been there. When I go on vacation, I like to know what others think and where they have gone. What do they suggest we would enjoy? If they have never even been to the state of Alaska themselves, then how would they know truthfully, what will make this the best trip you have ever been on? There’s no possible way they could know this information, all they can tell you is what they have read. But with so much to see and so much to do there, it would be best to find someone that will know the wonders Alaska has to uncover.

All it takes is a little bit of initiative to make sure you aren’t getting taken for granted. When you have a prosperous agent in your field then you will have the best trip to Alaska ever! Whether you want to attend the many sports there or just sit, relax and enjoy the scenery, only an agent with the right qualifications will know what you need. It will make all the difference!

How many times have you wondered, where are the Alaska sports teams? I mean every other state has teams everywhere, but you never really see the name of Alaska. There is a simple answer to this; they don’t have actual teams in the more popular sports. They do have one NCAA minor league and some college teams, but that makes up for their main sports. The other sports they have are more appealing to the relaxed person with exception to a few times a year when they have some extraordinary events.

The Alaskan Aces are the main minor league hockey teams for the state. They have done quite well for themselves, considering they have a lot of space and ice to work with. There are additional hockey teams throughout the state within their colleges. For instance the University of Alaska in Fairbanks has a hockey team as well that competes on a collegiate level. When looking for the teams you have to be sure to know which one you are looking at because there are several Universities of Alaska, spread throughout the state.

For the most part sports within Alaska are in a more open field, they are more with nature. Since the land still carries enormous amounts of wildlife in every shape and form, then they concentrate on those types of sports. Around the mountains they have hunting expeditions, skiing competitions, hiking grounds and even entertain mountain biking. While participating in these activities you can camp out on the mountains and fish, or you can participate as well in fishing competitions since the fish are abundant there.

Now to discuss the annual events that is also some of the biggest events. In November, Alaska hosts the Great Alaska Shootout bringing college basketball teams from around the world to compete against each other. In July they celebrate with the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics. This event happens in Fairbanks, Alaska and bring tourist of all kinds to the well known city. Neither of those sporting events is considered the biggest competition for the state. During March they hold the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, where both men and women compete and go from Anchorage to Nome. That totals about 1,159 miles and the winner would get $50,000, making it a very popular sport for those that know the area and how to sled with dogs at the front.

It’s hard to imagine that with so many sports, you don’t hear about them more often. All it takes is a little initiative to find out exactly what this wonderful state beholds. Alaska can be a wonder of many things, but it won’t be sports for much longer. The more people become interested in sports like hockey or outdoor sports the more Alaska can be noticed and brought to life more throughout the year. Even though they may not have the facilities for many of the more popular sports what they do have they excel in and our proud to carry their name with it.
