Renting apartments nowadays are really on the rise. Many young urban professionals and young adults opted too stay in apartments since it doesn’t cost much, and they wont pay a lump some like buying a house. Also, apartments are very comfortable because you don’t have to make so much effort to clean it up, and considering that owning a house is not that big as a priority for most of them.

Although this may be a temporal home, there are several things that one should consider before renting an apartment.

First is the location. This is very important since you rent the place you do have a cash out every month, therefore you don’t want to choose an apartment which will add another cost in let’s say, your transportation fees. If it is possible, choose a place near to your work or to the city. Though there are some who prefer to live in a sub-urban environment, you really need to weigh what are the pros and cons before you choose.

Second is the price. You don’t want to rent on a place which can preferably cost you over one third of your monthly income. If you choose to live in an urban environment, it will cost you more, but then, salaries on the city are relatively higher than those on the rural areas. Then again, you need to weigh what are your priorities, and plan on how to stretch your monthly salaries.

Third is the space. This will depend on how many will live in one apartment, the quantity of your things, and how big the space do you really need. Most couples prefer apartments with an extra room because they make it as an office or a guest room. Of course, if you have children, you really need a bigger one.

Fourth is the parking space. This applies to those who have cars. But having an apartment with a good parking space is definitely a plus. Even if you don’t have one, at least if someone visits your place, they can park.

Fifth is your landlord. Even if you have the most perfect place to live, but the landlord is hard to deal with, you better think this over because you might end up living in the worst apartment. From payment transactions to late night repairs, your landlord is the main person to talk to regularly.

Lastly are the amenities. Some apartments set the last floor to be the place where renters must do their laundry, so if you are living in the second floor, you must carry your laundry upstairs. Bad isn’t it? Although there are some that have sufficient elevators, you really need to consider if the amenities on a given apartment can satisfy your daily and weekly needs.

The decision still relies on you. But please consider what are suggested above. Always think over what are the strengths and weaknesses of living in an apartment. This may be a temporary house, but you don’t want to live on a place that can hurt not only yourself but also your pockets.
