Pets are some of the most amazing creatures on earth. Over the history of civilization, people have used pets for a myriad of different reasons. They are great additions to the family, they can cheer a person up and they can even fill a void that may be in a person’s life. Fortunately, there are quite a few different pets that are available to anyone who may seek them. With all of the pet options available, people generally make the choice to add a dog into their lives. This is a fantastic decision, but then it comes to one of the biggest debates the pet world has ever known: “should I buy a dog or should I adopt one?”
This debate has been raging for quite a long time and has many people up in arms. When it comes to many animal lovers, they usually say that it is a better idea to adopt. While this may not be what many people want to hear, this is simply the best choice. There are very many animals that have been abandoned and they do not particularly have any place to go. This means that they are put into shelters and are waiting for people to discover them and take them to their homes.
This is becoming more and more popular with all of the commercials that people are starting to see where they show some adorable animals really in need. Animals are in need because there are many shelters that are overcrowded, and they are filling up at an alarming rate. Because of this reason, there is simply no place for these animals to go. This creates the need for people to take these animals from the shelter and care for them in their homes.
Fortunately, most of these animals are just as good as getting one from a breeder or pet store. They usually have been abandoned for no real reason, and they make great companions in the home. Generally, the adopted animal is pretty friendly and they love people just as much as that cute puppy does.
One worthwhile thing to note is the fact that they may not be puppies, and they may be a little rough around the edges. One thing that they do not lack is love and people usually find that they love their adopted pet more than the pet that they would have bought. On top of this fact, a prospective dog owner can take pride in knowing that they saved an animal’s life and provided it with the care that it deserves. This is something that many other dog owners cannot say, as the perfectly groomed puppy will always find a home, while the older pet may not.
Adopting a pet is a very responsible thing for anyone to do, and people who do will tell a person that it is one of the best things that they can say that they have done. If a person wants to make a change, they should seriously consider adopting their next pet.

Travelling with our dog is something that more and more of us are choosing to do. Whether going on a weekend trip to the woods, taking a flight to the coast, or heading across the country, we do not want to leave our best friend at home while we are off having fun in a different location. So, we pack the dog into the car, onto the train, onto the boat, or onto the plane to go with us as we enjoy our much needed time off away from home. Travelling is hard enough with just the family. Add the dog to the mix and you have several potential disasters waiting to occur. You will want to be prepared for any eventuality if you insist on taking Fido along for the ride.
Dogs get bored just like people. If you are in the car driving for several hours, the kids will likely have DVDs, books, and MP3 players. You will have the radio to listen to. Your wife will have whatever she needs to keep herself occupied. The dog is expected to lie in the back and be quiet. As much as you want that, the likelihood of the dog relaxing the whole trip is very small. To keep him entertained, you should bring along a toy. Different dogs like different types of toys. Some like plush toys, some like rope toys, and some like rubber toys. Whatever type your dog likes, you should break out a new one when the dog gets in the car. This will keep get him excited and ensure that his attention is focused on the toy longer than it would be for one he has already played with.
On a long trip, we all have to stop for a pit stop. Dogs are no different. Make sure that you are prepared to take your dog out to find relief. Have a harness and a leash ready to go so that you can get him outside as quickly as possible. Harnesses are better than connecting the leash to a collar for most dogs because it gives you more control. In a strange environment, such as at a highway rest stop, the dog will be curious and try to pull you along to experience all of the new smells. Dogs have been known to pull right out of collars, which can be a disaster on the side of the freeway. A harness will keep you in control without allowing the dog to choke himself.
On a plane or a train, you will need some sort of a carrier. You can find a duffel bag-type carrier that will easily transport a small dog wherever you go. These bags zip open and closed. They usually have pockets you can open to expose mesh sides so that the dog can see out. They have shoulder straps to let you carry the dog in comfort. For airplane travel, these are required if you are going to take the dog in the cabin with you.
A little preparation goes a long way. If you are going to travel with your dog, be prepared for all eventualities.
